Life Beyond Mining

Life Beyond Mining is a Shared Value initiative implemented in Partnership between UNCHAINEDYOUTH - and Willing Mining companies willing to invest beyond mining value-chain. About 150 Youth male and female living in mine hosting communities have expressed great interest in LBM as a possible future that needs to be perfected now.

Kimberly and Carletonville are good example of cities that thrived through mining activities but today they both lie desolate with sewages running on the streets with less budget for basic service delivery. What happened with diamond and gold? Couldn’t someone have thought about Life Beyond Mining? What could mine hosting communities achieve through LBM?

THE PROGRAMME SEEKS TO;

1. Close the gap between the donations and the future needs of the community.
2. Prepare the society for economic lifestyle that may be needed beyond the life of mining.
3. Diversify the community economic portfolio by introducing other income generating activities.
4. Introduce hydroponics to the communities as an income generating activity best embraced by Youth.
5. To run “own a garden” campaign and train the community to participate in commercial hydroponics.
6. to cover 100 hectors of Greenhouses in 1000 homes by 2015, were one household will use, at least, 10metters of their yard.
